Brotherhood of El Santo Entierro

On Holy Saturday we bring our Holy Week to a close in Sanlúcar, accompanying Our Lady of Solitude, the image of the Brotherhood of El Santo Entierro (Holy Burial), the last of the penitential brotherhoods to pass along the official processional route of Sanlúcar, and at the same time one of the oldest in the town, having been founded no later than the early sixteenth century.

Our relationship with this brotherhood has a long history. Not only do we have experience from the recent period of our band, but this was also the only "official" Holy Week procession that the band was obliged to attend when it was municipal, with documented references to our participation as early as 1843. We stopped attending in the 2000s, when the Brotherhood processed on Good Friday.

Since its station of penance was moved to Holy Saturday in 2024, we have returned to accompany the beautiful Our Lady of Solitude, with her delicate canopy and the nineteenth-century embroidery on the ceiling and mantle by the Antúnez sisters.

The repertoire, as befits the occasion, is eminently funereal, suited to the solemnity of this procession.
