Maundy Thursday with Julián Cerdán

Brotherhood of La Esperanza

Sanlúcar de Barrameda

Since 2014

Our Crowned Lady of Hope

Every Maundy Thursday we remain in Sanlúcar to accompany the Crowned Virgin of Hope, the image of the Brotherhood of La Esperanza (Hope in Spanish), behind her distinctive green canopy.

Our band has been part of this brotherhood continuously since 2014, although we had already taken part in previous years. Indeed, it is worth noting that when the Brotherhood was founded and began to process with only the Christ of the Expiration (in 1926), it was accompanied by our band - then municipal in character and directed by Julián Cerdán himself - which went on to play behind the Virgin once she was incorporated into the cortege a few years later.

Our Lady of Hope enjoys deep devotion in Sanlúcar, being the first sorrowful image from the town to be canonically crowned (in 2007).

The repertoire we perform here is, as could not be otherwise, very cheerful, becoming especially intense when the Virgin passes through her seafaring neighbourhood.
