Performance season

The musical season of the Julián Cerdán Band

Throughout the year, the Julián Cerdán Band carries out an intensive performance season combining symphonic concerts, processional music, brotherhood engagements, bullfighting events and popular open-air concerts, maintaining a constant presence in the cultural life of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and at the main musical events across Andalusia.

Start of the artistic season

Saint Cecilia

The season begins in September with preparations for the Saint Cecilia concert, held in November and constituting one of the most significant artistic milestones of the year. It is a programme of great technical and musical demands, featuring works of considerable scope, which allows the band to showcase its performance standard and artistic ambition in the realm of the symphonic concert for band.

Preparation of the processional repertoire

Lent

After the Saint Cecilia concert, the band begins in December the specific work on the processional repertoire, renewing each year part of the marches it performs during Holy Week. Following the Christmas break, rehearsals intensify in preparation for Lent, a period during which the band gives numerous concerts linked to brotherhoods, which also serve as a testing ground ahead of Holy Week.

Maximum level of demand

Holy Week

Holy Week represents one of the most important moments of the season. Over seven consecutive days, the Julián Cerdán Band takes part in prominent Holy Week celebrations such as those of Seville, Cádiz, Jerez and Sanlúcar de Barrameda. It is a week of the highest artistic and physical demands, during which the band must maintain a high performance standard in a particularly valued and exacting context.

Glorias processions and extraordinary outings

Glorias

Beyond Holy Week, the Julián Cerdán Band is regularly called upon for Glorias processions and extraordinary events throughout the year. Brotherhoods from across Andalusia engage the band for special celebrations, anniversaries and extraordinary outings, reflecting the recognition and prestige the ensemble has achieved.

Music in El Pino Bullring

Bullfighting season

The Julián Cerdán Band is the official band of the El Pino Bullring in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, taking part in all scheduled bullfights. In this context it performs a carefully curated repertoire of bullfighting pasodobles, a musical facet that forms an essential part of the concert band tradition and which the ensemble approaches with the same artistic rigour as the rest of its activities.

Summer concerts at La Calzada

La Calzada

Since 1872, the band has maintained the tradition of summer concerts at the Paseo de la Calzada, one of the most deeply rooted cultural events in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. During the summer months, thousands of people enjoy open-air concerts with a varied and accessible repertoire. The season closes on 15 August with the procession of the Patron Saint, after which the band takes a well-deserved break before beginning the annual cycle once again in September.
